The Reign of the Rose – September 2011

Posted By on September 28, 2011

Mary Ann Harper, El Dorado Rose – 2011, has agreed to share her reign with our Center. Each month, Mary Ann will offer us a look at what is happening as a result of her special status.

Sunday, September 4th – Normadene, Ethel, Teddy, Ellen, Roni and I started our day by meeting at the Sierra Nevada House in Coloma for a wonderful luncheon.

Remembering our girlish figures, we were very good and ordered different salads from their extensive luncheon menu – this was so we could each order a very decadent dessert. We then hurried over to the Olde Coloma Theatre where we met up with Judy and purchased our tickets. Prior to the curtain rising, we were introduced to the audience and the MC expressed his pleasure that the Roses were in attendance. The curtain then rose on the third melodrama of the 2011 season, “The Great Northern Amalgamated Pig Iron and Sperm Whale Company”. . . . . or . . . . .”Don’t Drink the Water” starring Roni’s daughter-in-law, Kris Pettibone as the Villainous Miss Penny Hunter and her granddaughter, Jessica Pettibone as the servant girl, Phyllis Glass. Another outstanding afternoon!!!

Friday, September 9th – Judy, Sandy and I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony @ the Western Slope Health Center, 3280 Washington St., P’Ville. This festive occasion ran from 5:30-7:30pm and we had a grand time interacting with residents, staff and FFA students who were there to volunteer as servers of food & drinks. The new manager is Doug Hawkins whom I know through 4H & FFA.

Wednesday, September 14th – Judy, Sandy, Mike & I attended the Chamber of Commerce Mixer held at the EDH Library. This was a joint mixer of both the SP/CP C of C and the EDH C of C. I’m getting to remember many of the members and it’s really fun networking with good people and being able to explain the Rose Program to so many who are unaware.

Friday, September 16th – Normadene, Judy, Carole, Mary Kay, Kathy & I met at the boardroom @ the fairgrounds for a dress rehearsal of our table setting for the Mother Teresa luncheon on Oct 2nd. Roni was ill and Barbara Silva was working. We will take extra place settings on Sat., Oct 1st @ 10am when we set our table. We are pleased that the Rose Program has been invited to participate. This is the first time ever!

We put all of our fancy dishes away to prepare for the picnic setting contest @ the Butterfly Concert. Those who stayed were Judy, Mary Kay, Kathy, and myself. We were joined by Sandy. Linda was in the hospital and had sent a list of items to be retrieved from her home to be used for the picnic. We are excited to be entering this contest.

Sunday, September 18th – The Butterfly Concert was great! We started the day @ 3pm by setting up the EZ-up with 4 tables under it and lots of chairs. We set the table with a quilt top for the main table cloth, red-white-blue enamelware accents, heritage pie tins to eat from, a lovely centerpiece of sunflowers & weeds that Mary Kay so artfully arranged, a small picnic basket overflowing with cotton napkins, and heritage Ball canning jars to drink from. Our menu consisted of pastys, apples-pears-mission grapes, oatmeal cookies, lemon water, iced tea and an apple crisp. We impressed the judges, shared our food and received 2nd place. Our prize was a set of 8 amber colored votive holders. Kathy Walter is already getting ideas for our next year’s entry! She has suggested a Victorian Dining Room setting.

Tuesday, September 20th – Judy, Sandy and I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Marshall Medical Center’s new Plastic Surgery Center, ENT Center & Orthopedics Center located at 4300 Golden Center Dr., Suite D. Many of the County Ambassadors were there and we visited with Sharon McDavid who expressed a desire to run for Rose some day. She is such an accomplished Milner and would be such an asset I look forward to her joining the Rose Court.

Tuesday, September 27th Judy and I attended the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce Mixer held at Crystal Basin Cellars, 3550 Carson Rd, Camino. They offered their award winning & gold medal wines in their newly remodeled tasting room and gourmet and grilled veggies provided by Smokey Ridge Charcuterie.

Thursday, September 29th – Judy, Sandy and I attended a “Grand Opening” @ Edward Jones Investments on Ponte Morino Dr, Cameron Park for Financial Advisor, Max Callaghan.

Friday, September 30th – Judy, Sandy and I participated in the joint Chamber Ribbon Cutting ceremony of the new business, Spot-on-Signs & Graphics on Enterprise Drive, Diamond Springs. Food was catered by Diane Wilkinson and was absolutely delicious! Thus, our duties during the month of September were fun and exciting. It’s always nice to network with people you know and with new acquain
