The Reign of the Rose – May 2012

Posted By on May 29, 2012

Mary Ann Harper, El Dorado Rose – 2011, has agreed to share her reign with our Center. Each month, Mary Ann will offer us a look at what is happening as a result of her special status.

Tuesday, April 24th : Judy, Sandy and I attended the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce Mixer hosted by the County Fair and held in the Marshall Bldg.  There were many items donated for the silent auction and with the Chamber Bucks we had accumulated throughout the year, we bid on a massage from somewhere (I don’t remember) and got the bid.  We will offer it as a silent auction item at the Rose Ball.

This evening, Mike Williamson and I gave our report to the Community Center Board regarding the upcoming Peddler’s Fair.

Wednesday, April 25th :  Attended the reception for Sharon McDavid  at the Placerville Shakespeare Club house.  Sharon is being sponsored by the Shakespeare Club and it was a very lovely, well attended reception with plenty of delicious finger foods.  I had the pleasure of taking Juanita Grimm with me.  Juanita has been in the Rose Court since 1977 and was selected as the Golden Rose in 1995.

Thursday, April 26th: Judy, Sandy and I attended the Shingle Springs / Cameron Park monthly mixer at Wells Fargo Bank on Palmer Drive.  We engaged in wonderful conversation with officers of the bank and hopefully made a lasting impression to one of the banks new officers who just transferred up to the foothills from the bay area.

Tuesday, May 1st :  Another Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting was held at Jensen Farmers Insurance Agency on Country Club Dr in Cameron Park.  Michael Jensen’s family was all there and it is inspiring to be a part of yet another grand opening and to enjoy the pride with his family.

Saturday, May 5th :  Out of the seven who signed up to attend the Historical Clarksville Day Celebration, Sandy and I were the only two who were able to be there.

It was windy and pollen was in the air!  But, we had an absolutely grand time.  I am so glad I finally took the time to attend this.  I had felt in the past that this was only for those who were historically connected to Clarksville.  I hope it continues for many more years and will not be pushed aside due to development in the area.

Sandy and I then attended another Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting of the new Autotronic Service Dept. located in El Dorado Hills.  The original Autotronic Service Dept. is located in Cameron Park.

To show our true western stamina, Sandy and I headed for our 3rd even of the day.  We ended up at the 2012 El Dorado County 4H Chili Cook-off / Animal Round Up / Agriculture Expo held at the fairgrounds.  The wind today was exhausting but we endured, persevered and lasted.  By that evening, we were two “Wilted Roses.”

Sunday, May 6th :  Kathy Walter and I were joined by my oldest grandson and 2 of his friends from high school at 9am at the Roses Adopt – A – Spot at the fairgrounds.  If it hadn’t been for the 3 boys and the 4 wheel drive pickup truck, Kathy and I would still be there.

We were able to completely clean out the site.  We have a lot of work still to do before we can plant anything.

Wednesday, May 16th : I attended the monthly meeting of the El Dorado Roses, held in the board room at the fairgrounds.

Thursday, May 17th :  Judy, Sandy and I attended the very lovely Open House and Ribbon Cutting for the Marshall Specialty Care Clinic (Cardiology, General Surgery, Hearing and Rheumatology) in Cameron Park.  Many Chamber members were there as were county dignitaries.  It is a beautiful building that we can all be very proud of.

Friday, May 18th : We were scheduled to attend the Ribbon Cutting and Open House at the new offices of the El Dorado Community Foundation on Main Street Placerville.  I was without an escort as Harry was working at a blood drive and neither Judy nor Sandy was available to attend.  So, I had lunch with the girls.

Saturday, May 19th : The day began at 9am with the committee members who are working to put on the Shingle Springs Community Center’s 1st Annual Peddler’s Fair.  Most of us were there until 3:30pm.  It looked good and we felt confident that we were going to have people peddling their wares the next day – on Sunday.

Harry and I left to get cleaned up and beautiful for the Annual Rose Ball.  The Rose Ball is very formal for the contestants who have been nominated to run for El Dorado Rose and for the ladies attending who are in the Rose Court from previous years.  The Grande Promenade of the four beautiful ladies who are running for El Dorado Rose – 2012 and their escorts was a wonderful sight to behold.  Traditionally, the Golden Rose is announced at this time and we were very pleased when it was announced that Judy Muetz is the Golden Rose – 2012.  It was a lovely evening with beautiful music to dance to and a delicious dinner prepared by Diane Wilkinson.

Sunday, May 20th : The day of the Peddler’s Fair finally arrived !  All of the committee members arrived at the community center at 6 am.  The breakfast committee filled the entire building with wonderful smells, Dan and Mike and Bob were working like little energizer bunnies with their quads and trailers helping vendors get set up.  The weather was good and people were happy to be doing something for the good of the community.  We have received many tips, comments and suggestions for next year and will be having a Post Peddler’s Fair Mtg on Tuesday, May 29th.  We will give our report to the SSCC Board that evening at their 7 pm meeting.

The El Dorado Roses had a booth and sold hand crafted flowers made from fabric along with sachets and soaps.  They cleared $220 and were very pleased.  I hope they will return next year.

Tuesday, May 22nd:   2012 Golden Rose, Judy; 2012 El Dorado Rose Candidate Sandy and I attended an El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce mixer at Vitek Mortgage with Carl Hagen on Placerville Drive in Placerville.    It was held outside and the weather was perfect.  It is always a pleasure seeing the same faces that I have become acquainted with this past year.

Thursday, May 24th :  Judy, Sandy and I attended the regular monthly mixer of the Shingle Springs / Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce held at the Cameron Park CSD.  Many chamber members had tables surrounding the perimeter of the large room showcasing their products or service.  The food was terrific as caterers were eager to impress and had wonderful samples of their products.
